In a career spanning more than three decades, Max Hata has been advising on international tax for the overseas operations of Japanese companies. He works across a wide range of fields including corporate tax, pass-through, cross-border transactions, corporate restructuring, USA personal income tax for foreigners, and tax provisions (SFAS 109, FIN 48).
A frequently-published essay writer and blogger, he is much sought after as both a lecturer and a speaker at seminars. Although now specialised in tax advisory, he began his career in the export/import division of a general trading company.
He is qualified as a lawyer (USA) and as a certified public accountant (US, UK, Hong Kong). An undergraduate of Sophia University, Japan, he obtained a PhD in Law from Whittier Law School (JD Cum Laude), USA.
