Neal is a partner in EY’s Valuation, Modeling & Economics practice.
With 18 years’ experience exclusively in business valuation and damage quantification, Neal has prepared hundreds of reports relied on by courts and arbitral tribunals. He has testified many times in commercial arbitration, investor-state disputes and before Canadian courts, including the Federal Court of Canada, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta.
Neal’s practice is broadly diversified. His industry experience includes mining, energy, construction, manufacturing and software. He has prepared valuations and analyses for various purposes, including mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and tax. He has also dealt with a range of disputes, such as breach of contract matters, expropriation and post-merger/acquisition disputes.
Since 2014, Neal has been ranked by Who’s Who Legal (WWL) as a leading expert in the field of business valuation and damage quantification globally and in Canada. In the WWL surveys, lawyers and clients recognized Neal for being a “smart, well-spoken, highly organised and thorough expert” with “a firm but pleasant testifying manner which renders him instantly credible.”
For nearly a decade, Neal was an adjunct faculty member at the Schulich School of Business at York University and has taught courses at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He has written several articles and led some of the most renowned expert witness training courses globally, including the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy (FIAA) program.
Neal is a husband and active father to two young children. Neal enjoys family time, keeping active, cooking and reading.
Neal received his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Schulich School of Business and holds Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designations.
