Iwas 10-years-old when I told my dad I wanted to do something in technology. It was never a choice. I was fascinated by technology. I gravitated toward it. Why?
For a problem solver like me and countless others, no doubt technology provides solutions to problems. And I was always fascinated by the originality and scale of certain technological advancements and applications.
It was natural that I chose to study software engineering. But it wasn’t until I got out into the field that I realized I not only love technology, but I thrive with people. That’s what motivated me to move from startups to large corporations, and ultimately tech consulting. I’ve never looked back.
The world gives us ample opportunity to face new and different challenges and I personally take it as a chance to learn and grow, bring out the best you have to offer... Collaborating with people from a diverse backgrounds, trying to understand the heart of a problem and then coming together with the best solution which fits with their needs. . That’s my driving force. As a Solution Architect at EY, I can put all of this into practice every single day. I work with different clients, learn continuously and always feel like I’m pushing myself just beyond the comfort zone towards growth. I get to do this in a place that cares about my wellbeing. Mentors want to work with me and want to support my growth — professionally and personally. This culture of belonging is instrumental to my success. I’m combining a career I love with a fulfilling life, and I’m excited about how that will continue to evolve from here on out.
Of course, we can’t paint a clear image of our future without first understanding where we’ve been. When I reflect on my career so far, I’m proud of what I’ve achieved with my teams for my clients. What I remember the most, though, is the guiding principles I’ve picked up along the way:
Making noise isn’t just okay – it’s essential. Taking ownership of our own careers and proactively seeking out what we’re after is important. When I see an opportunity, I talk about it. I ask questions. I seek input. If you’re a woman in STEM, you’re often working against stereotypes. We change that together by showing up, pushing back and remembering: we’re here because the organization believes in us. At EY, I’m encouraged to be my authentic self and make that meaningful noise. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
In the best organizations, you’re empowered to make decisions. I’ve learned to trust my gut, assert myself and share my opinions. The response has been amazing. Here, I’m supported in making big, bold recommendations, decisions and contributions. This fuels me to keep on going.
Giving back helps us all move forward. As a tech consultant, I invest in new hires and next-generation talent. I find ways to open my network up to others and share guidance on how to grow at work. I urge others to find ways to work smarter, not harder, and prioritize high-value work where they can make the greatest possible impact. Through each of these moments, I discover new things about myself as a professional, too.
Tech consulting looks different for each of us. That’s the beauty of the profession, really. You can start out in one area, explore another and then dive right into something new. I’ll always be excited about the potential of technology. I love blending the right tech tools with the right talented teams to create something incredible. More than anything, I can’t wait to welcome the next generation of female talent into this space. There’s so much we can achieve together.
