How a husband-and-wife team put CSR at the heart of their business

In the second episode of the Entrepreneur Community Insights podcast, host Lynn Rattigan speaks to Kim and Simon Morrish, owners of Ground Control about building a socially conscious business.

Lynn Rattigan speaks to husband-and-wife team, Kim and Simon Morrish, owners of Ground Control, about how they built a carbon neutral company and became leaders in driving environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives.

Kim and Simon acquired ground maintenance and landscape construction firm Ground Control in 2004 and grew it from a regional business to what is now a £150mn business with 700 members of staff. Its clients include four of the country’s largest supermarket chains, the NHS and Network Rail.

Kim and Simon share why it’s never the wrong time to do the right thing and how they ensure their commitment to social and environmental sustainability is at the very core of their corporate values.

Key takeaways include;

  • Being an entrepreneur doesn’t mean you have to create a new business, but it’s the vision you have for growing a company.
  • Entrepreneurs must be prepared to stay true to their core values and build a team around them that believe in those same values.
  • Sustainable leadership is more than just what you do as a business, but also about how you pay it forward. To driving valuable change, entrepreneurs should consider investing in other ventures that have the same values as they do.
