As the #1 Sustainability leader for outstanding work helping companies achieve sustainability goals according to the research and advisory firm Verdantix, EY teams have a legacy of over 20 years in providing sustainability, and environment, social and governance (ESG) services. We utilize our deep technical skills across a breadth of business issues to help businesses create value for sustainability – while helping sustainability create value for business. This enables us to help protect and create value for all stakeholders, and help build a better, more sustainable working world.

Take your sustainability skills to the next level

At EY, we’re dedicated to the development of sustainability skills for EY people so that they have general awareness of sustainability issues, as well as an understanding of the science relating to climate change. For example, we’ve developed our own sustainability academy with a broad curriculum covering the fundamentals of sustainability, as well as in-depth learning modules on specific topics, including sustainable business, sustainable finance and the circular economy. When people complete a learning module, they earn an “eco badge” that showcases their knowledge and incentivizes them to complete another. We have also collaborated with Hult International Business School to offer a free, fully funded Masters in Sustainability to all EY people. We have over 5,000 EY Badges in Sustainability completed.

Work at a more sustainable EY

We believe that achieving social, economic and environmental sustainability is the most pressing issue of our time. It is important to all stakeholders – from employees, consumers and society, the providers of financial capital – as well as the environment itself.

In FY21, EY reached a major milestone in our carbon ambition – we became carbon negative globally. To reach net zero in 2025, we will continue to deliver on our seven-point plan to reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with our Science Based Targets initiative SBTi1-validated 1.5°C degree pathway. We aim to reduce our total global emissions by 40% by FY25 (from the FY19 baseline), which includes reducing business travel emissions by 35%. We are also on track to meet a target of 100% renewable energy in EY member firm offices by 2025.

The International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Sustainability Disclosure Standards developed by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) represent one of the most significant shifts in financial reporting that businesses in Oceania have ever seen.

The Sustainability Disclosure Hub is designed to help businesses navigate the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, and local mandatory climate-related disclosure requirements that are proposed in Australia and are now effective in New Zealand.

Headed by Oceania market-leading financial and non-financial reporting professionals, the Sustainability Disclosure Hub brings together EY capability locally and across the globe – coupling financial and non-financial reporting strategy, readiness and assurance capabilities that have intimate knowledge of the work of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and local market insights, including the development of the climate-related disclosure requirements by the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and New Zealand's External Reporting Board (XRB).
