Given the active role boards have engaging the workforce, EY held discussion roundtables and have published a paper with practical insights.
At roundtables held in May 2020, we discussed with FTSE designated non-executive directors (DNEDs), company secretaries and HR directors, the initial experiences on workforce engagement given most premium listed companies had gone through their first full cycle of applying the 2018 UK Corporate Governance Code.
Some clear themes and common ideas emerged from our conversations and we share these in this paper to provide boards, company secretaries and others involved in this space with practical thoughts on how to approach workforce engagement in the future. For DNEDs, we hope that our paper will help them evolve and become more effective in their role. The paper also includes matters that companies can consider as part of an operating framework in defining a DNED’s role or drafting their terms of reference.
Given the active role boards now have in engaging with the workforce and bringing their voice into their boardrooms, EY’s Corporate Governance Team held discussion roundtables and have published a short paper with practical insights.
