As a female and an American who has been working in London for 10 years, there's been challenges along the way. It's not been straightforward, but it's been an amazing journey. I’ve become more resilient, adaptable and empathetic. I’ve adapted to a new culture (even though the UK and America aren't too dissimilar) and I think it's about embracing your unique differences and building your personal brand. At the beginning I was trying to fit in, and I’m pleased to say this is no longer the case.
I’m also an active member of the EY Women’s Network where part of my role is to support in achieving gender parity. Being a mum of two myself, I think it’s important we recognise that it’s possible to be a working mum and progress in your career. And, to support colleagues around me, I’ve been leading a mentoring programme and even started a ‘Mums in Strategy and Transactions’ support group.
Having taken maternity leave twice, I’ve returned to work both times on a full-time basis, five days a week and still had the opportunity to be there for my children. The hybrid working environment has been a dynamic change to the way we all work and has been a significant driver in encouraging flexibility. As a working mum, I take full advantage of this and benefit from only having to come into the office once or twice a week.
