Harnessing our globally connected networks and building lasting connections

Fabrizio is a partner at EY in Glasgow. Discover how he harnessed his language skills to take part in a life-changing secondment in Italy.

Supportive teams

Fabrizio is Italian and grew up in Scotland. He studied Accounting and French at university. and has always had a keen interest in both numbers and languages.

He was initially attracted to EY due to our global scale and international exposure, and in 2008 took part in our summer internship programme before joining the Glasgow office as an audit graduate in 2009.

From the beginning of his time at EY, Fabrizio worked closely with senior leaders who helped him shape and drive his career.

“From my first year, I was working closely with partners who helped me develop and grow in confidence. For me, I don’t think you can compete with the experience at EY. We have all the benefits of working for a globally connected organisation, whilst working in flexible and caring teams who are invested in your personal and professional development.”

Globally connected network

In 2014, after qualifying and being promoted to Assistant Manager, Fabrizo began to explore opportunities for an international secondment.

“I’d always wanted to work internationally; it was one of the reasons I joined EY. I expressed an interest in pursuing overseas secondments after I qualified, and my team supported me to secure a role in Milan. It was a fantastic opportunity for me to combine my Italian heritage, which I’ve always been close to, with my career in Audit.”

Fabrizio initially moved to Milan for a year, but his secondment was then extended to two years. He reflects fondly on this experience as a defining moment in his career:

“I returned from my secondment in 2016, but it remains a highlight for me. I moved to a different country, worked in a different language, gained exposure to new clients, and was promoted to Manager during my time there. I gained valuable experience and knowledge that I was able to bring back to my team in the UK and made professional connections that I still leverage today.”

His secondment also had a profound impact on him personally:

“I was lucky that my partner’s job allowed her to move to Italy with me. Whilst there, we got to experience living in another country and all the great things Milan has to offer. We also made life-long friends who attended our wedding once we’d moved back to Scotland”

A year after he returned to Glasgow, Fabrizio was promoted to Senior Manager before making Partner in 2022. As part of an international team, he still works regularly with colleagues from other countries and has the opportunity to travel as part of his role.

“Now I'm in a leadership position, I encourage others to take every opportunity they can to develop and grow. I'm always there to offer my support and guidance to my teams."
