Wendy Smit provides payroll support to international organizations that employ expats. Both Dutch workers in other countries and vice versa.
She has worked at EY since 1993 and developed her specialization in payroll through a wide range of professional training in areas such as tax and labour law and social security.
“International employment is very involved, with many tax issues too. For example, how does the 30% ruling work? Or what part of a person's foreign salary is subject to Dutch tax law? You often discover far too late that your organization is not compliant - namely, when the Tax and Customs Administration comes knocking. I look ahead, explore the possibilities and help clients consider all the possibilities. When necessary, I'll make agreements with the Tax and Customs Administration in advance.”
