Hooi Lam Chan is the EY Asean Financial Services Assurance Leader, and Deputy Professional Practice Director for EY in Malaysia.
With over 30 years of experience, Hooi Lam brings a wealth of experience to this role, having provided assurance and advisory services, particularly to the financial services industry. He advises clients in Malaysia and the region on appropriate accounting treatments for various exercises, including those involving the issuance of financial instruments, structured financing, securitization, hedge accounting, impairment assessments, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory capital instruments, synthetic instruments and embedded derivatives, under conventional and Islamic principles. Hooi Lam also assists clients with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) conversions and implementations.

He frequently speak at seminars, conferences and training programs in Malaysia and the region, to share his knowledge and experience.
He served six years as a member of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB). He completed the maximum two years term in the Board before retiring in 2022. During his tenure with MASB, Hooi Lam served as Chairman and project manager, among other roles, for the MASB Working Groups. He worked on financial instruments and was responsible for reviewing and undertaking detailed impact studies in alignment with the International Financial Reporting Standards and Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards, taking into consideration their significance to the market and industry.
Additionally, he is also an examiner for a local professional qualification examination and an adjudicator for the National Annual Corporate Report Awards (NACRA).
