From a bold vision to a global enterprise, Mr. Rajesh Magow has reshaped how India travels. As the co-founder of MakeMyTrip (MMT) alongside Mr. Deep Kalra and Mr. Keyur Joshi in 2000, he pioneered India’s online travel revolution, transforming a nascent idea into a digital powerhouse. A Chartered Accountant by qualification, Mr. Magow leveraged his experience in technology-based solutions to propel MMT to new heights.
He played a pivotal role in the company’s NASDAQ listing in 2010 and led industry-defining acquisitions, including Ibibo Group, Quest2Travel, BookMyForex, and Savaari Car Rentals. His crisis leadership proved invaluable during the pandemic, when he steered MMT through a staggering 95% revenue plunge with strategic cost rationalization, ensuring its resilience and future growth.
Under Mr. Magow’s dynamic leadership, MMT has evolved into a travel juggernaut spanning five verticals — hotels, holiday packages, flights, homestays, and ground transport —serving customers in 150 countries. The company also expanded to the Middle East during the pandemic, becoming the region's leading online travel agency in flights within two years through strategic partnerships.
In keeping with the changing travel behaviors and emerging markets, Mr. Magow has expanded into the B2B segment, securing more than 40,000 corporate clients, launched a travel fintech platform, and a solution catering specially to travel agents. Using a technology-led approach, he leveraged AI for introduce features like seat lock and voice bookings in Indian languages. He has also partnered with UP and MP state governments to develop tourism within the country.
Often a first mover in a segment, MMT today has more than 77 million customers. In FY24, it reversed a loss of INR93 crore into an INR1,809 crore profit.
Mr. Magow’s commitment to the social impact that a tourism enterprise can have is reflected in the company’s Foundation whose initiatives include training guides, disaster relief management, and waste management. Mr. Magow's vision continues to redefine MMT as India's leading travel ecosystem.
