Fueling India’s green energy ambitions
Ms. Meher Pudumjee is a trailblazer in India’s green energy transformation. A leader who walks the talk, she has doubled Thermax Ltd’s turnover over a decade, restructured the business, expanded into renewable energy, and advanced the company's digital transformation to enhance asset performance.
A fourth-generation entrepreneur, Ms. Pudumjee joined Thermax as a trainee engineer in 1990, became part of the board in 1996 and chairperson in 2004. Her leadership has led the company through many shifts and her guidance has propelled the energy company to establish a strong global presence. As of FY24, the company had over 40 subsidiaries (20 in India), 14 manufacturing sites (10 in India), and a sales and service network across 90-plus countries.
Her persistent focus on exploring new spaces and seeking methods to enhance eco-friendly alternatives. Concurrently, she has pushed to elevate the energy efficiency of projects through use of biomass and agrofuels. Her bold forays into new segments have led to revenue growth to the tune of INR9,323 crore in FY24 while PAT surged almost 43% to INR644 crore.
Ms. Pudumjee actively promotes community welfare through support of education and skill development. In addition to sustainability being an operational imperative, Thermax has made notable progress in reducing use of single-use plastics and Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions while increasing reuse and recycle of water. She aims to further the cause through focused action across key areas of operational efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and fuel transition initiatives.
