Johannesburg, 6 September 2024: EY today announced the top ranked companies in the 2024 Excellence in Integrated Reporting (EIR) Awards.
The awards benchmark standards of excellence in the quality of integrated reporting published by listed South African companies for their investors and stakeholders. The top 100 JSE-listed companies, based on market capitalisation as of 31 December 2023, were included for consideration. Pure holding companies were excluded. In line with a growing global focus on sustainability reporting, and new standards being published in this arena, this year’s EY EIR Awards included some insights on sustainability reporting.
Larissa Clark, Corporate Reporting Leader, EY Africa, said: “The purpose of the survey is to encourage and benchmark the quality of integrated reports published by listed companies in South Africa. The aim is to continuously improve the quality of the reports to meet the increasing demands of shareholders for decision-useful information.”
Clark said that over the years it has become clear that financial statements on their own do not tell the whole story of a company’s performance.
“The integrated report provides the ideal platform to tell the whole story and to make these important links. Once again, in this year’s Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards we celebrate the achievements of South African reporters who make these connections and tell their longterm value creation story particularly well.”
Top rankings
Nedbank Group Ltd achieved the top ranking in the EY EIR 2024 awards, for the third year running. Redefine Properties Ltd ranked second, as it did in 2022 and 2023. Absa Group took third place this year.
“It is our great pleasure to congratulate Nedbank for achieving first place,” says Clark. “The adjudicators felt Nedbank’s report has a clear emphasis on value creation and strategy. It is well laid out, easy to read and good use is made of infographics to summarise complex information in a way that is easily understandable.
