Ed Capel advises organizations on tax accounting and tax reporting: how the fiscal position is quantitatively and qualitatively reflected in reports, such as the annual accounts or internal group reports. He also regularly offers advice on all fiscal issues, in particular to Dutch companies that are active internationally.
He studied fiscal economics at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and has been working at EY since 2002. He previously worked for ten years at another leading consultancy organization.
“I translate a company’s fiscal position into the figures in the annual accounts, for example, by following the valid accounting framework. That can be US GAAP, IFRS or Dutch GAAP. The calls for compliance and transparency concerning the fiscal position is only increasing, and so I offer clients intensive support in this regard. I take a reliable, transparent approach in my work. Not with a load of theory, but by working hands-on. By taking the client by the hand, maintaining a continual dialog, and sticking firmly to the matter in hand.”
How Ed is building a better working world
“Having young colleagues in my team drives me. I’ve been working in this field for about 28 years and they give me new insights. I enjoy watching them develop into fully-fledged advisers, and sharing my knowledge. But it’s a two-way process - I learn just as much from them about new technologies, and they keep me on my toes on the fiscal/technical side. That’s really fascinating.”
