The inaugural EY Young Technology Professional Challenge 2022 is launched, in collaboration with SAP and Digital Penang

At the opening ceremony of the new Penang office, EY Technology Solutions Sdn Bhd (EY), in collaboration with SAP and Digital Penang, also announced the launch of the EY Young Technology Professional Challenge (EY YTPC) 2022. Malaysian undergraduates, who are pursuing their third year of studies onwards and enrolled in local and foreign universities, are invited to participate in the challenge. The team-based competition aims to inculcate awareness among Malaysian students on how to apply enterprise technology in a real business environment; cultivate a culture of innovation and growth in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce; and build and support a network of young technologists.

Interested Malaysian undergraduates are required to register their interests from 29 August 2022 to 30 September 2022. The team challenge comprising two to four members in each team will experience firsthand the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) – a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Integration Platform as a Service (EiPaaS) and the Magic Quadrant for multi-experience development platforms. Participating teams will be assessed on their solutions which will be built on the SAP BTP and their presentations, from which the judges will look for evidence of creative and analytical strengths, practical skills, inclusive leadership behavior and personality.

Participants will be provided guidance by EY and SAP professionals during the course of the competition, from pitching their ideas to the development of the solution for the business challenge. Their ideas will be reviewed over a period of four weeks. Following that, the semi-final and final stages will take place in November this year.

Prizes for the EY YTPC Malaysia competition include prize money of up to RM 12,000 and internship opportunities or conditional offers of employment with EY member firms in Malaysia.

Tan Boon Yow [陈文耀], EY Asean Technology Consulting Leader and Partner, Ernst & Young Consulting Sdn Bhd, said:

“Being at the forefront of the digital transformation evolution, EY has and continues to play a significant role in helping organizations in Malaysia and Asean, both conventional and new, to transform their businesses through the power of people, technology and innovation. The EY Young Technology Professional Challenge extends our reach beyond organizations, allowing us to help build a better working world for our youth, so that they can actively participate, thrive and reap the benefits of technology and digitalization.”

“At EY, we are passionate about opening new doors of opportunities for our young talent to help them explore and discover their potential; and prepare them for the future as they take their place as business and technology professionals and leaders. This challenge is also aligned with our objective of helping to build a steady pipeline of technology and digital talent in the country, in line with our national digital agenda,” he added.

Cynthia Quah [柯瑞平], SAP Malaysia Interim Managing Director said:

“Public, private, and plural partnerships are crucial in bridging and closing Malaysia’s digital literacy and skills gap. Businesses, governments, and communities need to collaborate to empower Malaysians with the relevant digital skills such as data analytics and management. This requires a deep rethink of the current education systems and renewed emphasis on employee development, and the EY Young Technology Professional Challenge is such an initiative to address this objective."

"SAP Malaysia is pleased to join EY to empower the Malaysia youth community with future-ready skills relevant to today's Digital Economy. Besides being a platform for tertiary students to demonstrate their skills and expertise in computer programming, the initiative would serve as a catalyst for the community to create impactful solutions so that Penang and Malaysia will continue to innovate and prosper,” Quah further said.

"SAP is committed to enabling every enterprise to become intelligent, networked and sustainable – bringing together the solutions, technologies and best practices needed to run integrated, digital business processes in the cloud. Our collaboration with EY is an embodiment of this commitment, including cultivating a ‘digital-first’ mentality and for Malaysians to continuously develop a mindset of lifelong upskilling and self-development to thrive in the digital era."

Tony Yeoh [杨春福], Chief Executive Officer, Digital Penang said:

“In our efforts to build a successful digital ecosystem, we welcome professional services companies such as EY to expand, provide services and create jobs in the area of digital and software services”.
