The Preferable Future of Food by EY Doberman named as finalist in Art & Design Category of Fast Company’s 2023 World Changing Ideas Awards.

The winners of Fast Company’s 2023 World Changing Ideas Awards were announced on May 2, honoring sustainable designs, innovative products, bold social initiatives, and other creative projects that are changing the way we work, live, and interact with the world. EY Doberman’s digital manifestation The Preferable Future of Food was named as a finalist in the Art/Design Category.

This work uses speculative design to create tangible concepts and images to illuminate the choice of systems change, showcasing realistic and scalable solutions for the near future. As a follow up to the hugely impactful Preferable Future of Fashion manifestation released last year, EY Doberman launched the Preferable Future of Food in partnership with sustainable food investment fund Gullspång Re:food. This manifestation aims to upend the food systems we’ve created, replacing them with new systems that work for our planet.

This year’s World Changing Ideas Awards showcase 45 winners, 216 finalists, and more than 300 honorable mentions—with health, climate, energy, and AI among the most popular categories. A panel of Fast Company editors and reporters selected winners and finalists from a pool of more than 2,200 entries across urban design, education, nature, politics, technology, corporate social responsibility, and more.

- Speculative design offers us a clear roadmap towards shaping a preferable future and this manifestation illustrates how we can reinvent the food system by identifying where the new paradigms are emerging right now. We’re surrounded by exciting, and frankly profitable opportunities to transform for the better, and we’re so honored that Fast Company has recognized our efforts to catalyze these changes, says Elin Ankerblad CEO at EY Doberman.

- It’s thrilling to see the creativity and innovation that are so abundant among this year’s honorees. While it’s easy to feel discouraged by the state of the world, the entrepreneurs, companies, and nonprofits featured in this package show the limitless potential to address society’s most urgent problems. Our journalists have highlighted some of the most exciting and impactful work being done today—from housing to equity to sustainability—and we look forward to seeing not only how these projects evolve but how they inspire others to develop solutions of their own, says Fast Company editor-in-chief Brendan Vaughan.
