Jennifer van Eekelen assists pension funds, insurers and asset managers with all their risk management and compliance issues.
She studied Business Economics at Maastricht University, then took a postgraduate course to become a Chartered Accountant at the same institution. She also holds a CIA title (Certified Internal Auditor). She has been working at EY since 2000 and is on the editorial staff of EY’s professional magazine “Eye on Finance”.
“A lot of things are happening now in the financial sector. There are new laws and regulations, low interest rates and, in the meantime, there is the need to innovate. We consider the risks and the approach together. Moreover, I believe in practical, appropriate solutions, one size fits all simply isn’t an option. I don’t believe in “ticking off lists of risks” either. I prefer challenging the customer to take a broader view: which additional steps could you take? And which new risks present opportunities? I might engage other EY experts sometimes in helping the customer even better.”
How Jennifer is building a better working world
“As a customer, you don’t just choose the EY brand, but also the EY team. They are honest, practical professionals with an abundance of knowledge and skills. Always ready to help the customer in the best way they can. This is a great culture in which I am constantly learning. And because you work with different disciplines, you continuously get new insights that you can connect up in new ways. It is precisely this human side that makes this work such incredible fun.”
