Sophie Abashidze Becomes the First EY Georgia Alumnus to Become Partner Outside of Georgia

EY Georgia is proud to announce that Sophie Abashidze has made history as the first EY Georgia alumnus to become a Partner at EY outside of Georgia. This significant achievement not only marks a personal milestone in her career but also represents a pivotal moment for diversity and inclusion within the firm.

Sophie began her journey at EY Georgia as an intern while pursuing her degree at the European School of Management. For many students at ESM, securing a position at EY is considered a prestigious start to their careers. “Little did I know it would not be a short internship,” she reflects, highlighting the unexpected path her career would take.

The decision to transfer to EY London came swiftly for Sophie. “From my experience, the biggest decisions are the ones made quickly,” she explains. “If I ponder about making a big move, it usually does not end up happening. I remember before I left EY Georgia, one of the Partners asked me, do you want to be a big fish in a pond or a small one in the ocean? Without a doubt, I said, I’d love to swim in the ocean. And the rest is history…”

During her time at EY, Sophie has encountered numerous milestones that have shaped her professional journey. She has had the privilege of working with some of the largest listed groups within the UK insurance market, gaining invaluable experience along the way. “I’ve been fortunate to meet individuals who believed in me and provided me with the right opportunities,” she states, acknowledging the supportive culture at EY that has fostered her growth.

Like many professionals, Sophie has faced challenges, particularly in balancing her role as a working parent. “I would be lying if I said I’ve overcome the challenges of juggling work and family responsibilities,” she admits. Her approach emphasizes managing expectations rather than striving for perfection, a perspective that resonates with many in today’s workforce.

As the first EY Georgia alumnus to become a Partner outside of Georgia, Sophie takes immense pride in her roots at EY Georgia. “It gave me the foundation for what was to come and friends for life, for which I’ll forever be grateful.” This achievement serves as an inspiration for future generations of women in the industry, highlighting the critical importance of representation in leadership roles.

For Sophie, becoming a Partner represents the pinnacle of her profession. She aims to leverage her position to serve as a role model for female colleagues and working parents. “This role gives me the right platform to fulfill my ambition,” she asserts, expressing her commitment to contributing to the firm’s success and leaving a legacy within EY and the broader industry.

Sophie’s journey is a powerful testament to the impact of mentorship, resilience, and the importance of seizing opportunities. As she continues to break barriers and pave the way for others, her story will undoubtedly inspire many to follow in her footsteps.
