In the last semester of my master’s degree at Copenhagen Business School, I was on the lookout for consulting events as I wanted to explore different job opportunities and practice problem-solving. The EY NextGen Women Case Competition caught my attention because it provided the opportunity to work within transactions, strategy and the realm of M&A and to also connect with experienced women in the field.
The case competition was a full-day event where I met many cool and motivated students from different universities, all there for similar reasons — to gain insights into consulting and work on a real-world business case. The day started with an introduction to EY’s Strategy and Transactions teams, which provided us insights into the different types of projects and challenges they tackle daily. Following this, we were divided into teams to solve a case, with the winning group advancing to an individual challenge to select one participant to represent Denmark in the global final. Beyond the competition, it was a great event to learn, collaborate and build connections.
Winning the competition was thrilling and it brought with it several exciting opportunities. I did a three-month internship in Corporate Finance working on EY Entrepreneur of the Year, which is one of the world's largest award shows celebrating innovation and entrepreneurship. My focus was specifically on the tech award, and I got to dive into the Danish SaaS landscape and conduct interviews with CEOs and management teams from some of Denmark's most innovative tech companies. I was also fortunate to get a mentorship program with an experienced professional from EY UK was very insightful.
It was a privilege to represent Denmark at the global EY NextGen Women final in Madrid —an amazing three-day event that included both cultural experiences and career-focused sessions that encouraged us to reflect on our skills and career aspirations. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to connect with the finalists from all over the world, who were all driven, passionate and inspiring women, as well as EY professionals with diverse skills, capabilities and experiences. My group also won the prize for the best solution in the team case challenge, which made the experience even more memorable.
