Decospan is the 2023 ambassador of the Family Business Award of Excellence®

The family-owned company is currently the European market leader in veneer processing.

This prestigious award has been rewarding the most exemplary family businesses in the country for 9 years and is presented by EY, in collaboration with FBN Belgium, Guberna, BNP Paribas Fortis and Mediafin. The jury, chaired by Guido Vanherpe, CEO of La Lorraine Bakery Group, sees Decospan as a very mature and powerful example of family governance for other family businesses.

Created by EY in 2014, the Family Business Award of Excellence® highlights Belgian family businesses that excel in corporate governance in both the family and the business, in the vision and preservation of family values and in the transmission of entrepreneurial spirit across generations. Communication, sustainable growth and social commitment are also important criteria taken into account by the jury in awarding the prize.

The jury with representatives from leading Belgian family businesses, judged that Decospan met all the criteria best and in the most balanced way. Among other things, they praised Decospan for the strong strategic model it has developed that blends sound no-nonsense management of the company with passion for the product and the well-being of its employees.

For three generations, Decospan has been a committed family company with an insatiable passion for wood. The family company, which today is the European leader in veneer processing, was created in 1978 as a spin-off of Menotex, a company that produced flax panels. Urbain Desmet, one of the shareholders of Menotex, founded Decospan by taking over one of its activities, namely the processing of flax panels with veneer (a thin layer of wood). Today, Decospan is a market-oriented lifestyle company with 900 employees and sales of more than €200 million. The company specializes in wood flooring and veneer products such as wall coverings, kitchen fronts and furniture components. Decospan thinks along with the specifier, the processor and the builder to develop total solutions - based on renewable raw material.
