In our Government Incentives team, you’ll play a critical role in supporting clients meet their objectives by identifying and securing access to State and Federal government funding and investment vehicles including the Research & Development (R&D) tax incentive, cash grants, other incentives and concessional loans for investments, innovation and growth.

What is Government Incentives?

You’ll work with clients at the forefront of innovation, from listed companies, global corporations, privately owned companies, as well as private equity and venture-backed portfolio companies and innovative start-ups, to help with accessing and making successful R&D tax incentive claims to the two entities that administer R&D tax incentives – the ATO and AusIndustry and Government grant strategy and applications across a range of programs and industries to fund and deliver innovative projects.

You’ll be working with a diverse national team consisting of programmers, engineers, economists, scientists, lawyers, and accountants who have a genuine interest in innovation, the economy and business growth.

What could you be doing?

  • Hands on experience from day one working on a full spectrum of clients at the forefront of innovation from listed companies, global corporations, privately owned companies, as well as private equity and venture-backed portfolio companies and start-ups while learning about their technology and development activities
  • Attend client meetings with CEOs, CFOs, tax managers, heads of R&D, chief scientists, chief technology officers and other key decision-makers to discuss their latest technology innovations, supporting proposals, and developing market leading technology enabled client deliverables
  • Calculate the value of R&D benefit for our clients from clients’ financial data
  • Research and interpret government concessions, grants or tax legislation, regulations, case law or other guidance
  • Contribute to writing technical reports, schedules and emails the team will provide to clients and third parties on R&D tax incentive applications and grant or non-dilutive funding strategies, recommendations, and applications
  • Receive on-the-job coaching and mentoring from experienced team members
  • Get to know leading innovative businesses, their strengths, and opportunities for improvement
  • Provide technical, financial support and advice and draft technical documentation
  • Liaise with government bodies regarding funding opportunities for clients. Help to communicate the impact of your results and recommendations for improvement directly with EY clients

Your career journey in Government Incentives

As a graduate, you’ll be part of our 12-month graduate development program that has been developed for graduates in all service lines, and is focused on connection, learning and celebration.

The program will provide you with the opportunity to network with your peers from other service lines and geographies. Running in parallel to your technical learning, you will develop leadership skills to become a successful graduate, and as you grow as a transformative leader.

As a Government Incentives graduate, you’ll take part in:-

  • Graduate Tax School
  • Regular training on R&D and Government Incentive topics and issues with your local and Oceania wide Government Incentives peers

As a vacationer, after our company induction, you’ll start developing an understanding of how our Government Incentives teams work and will be ready to work alongside teams on real client projects. You’ll meet other new vacationers from your office.

Your buddy and your counsellor will help you learn your way around the organisation, set your goals and plan your development while you’re here. You'll be well looked after with ongoing learning throughout the Vacationer Program with sessions facilitated by our Learning and Development team, Campus Recruitment team and service line specific training. The Vacationer Program is a great way to gain valuable audit experience, skills and networks to start building your career.
