Council of Representatives of the National Commission of Minimum Wages is installed in Permanent Session to set the Minimum Wages in force for 2022
On November 25, 2021, Bulletin No. 14/2021 was published, by which the beginning of the process of fixing the general and professional minimum wages that will be effective as of January 1, 2022 was announced, installing the H. Council of Representatives of the National Commission of Minimum Wages in Permanent Session.
In the session chaired by the head of Conasami, Luis Munguía Corella, the Technical Direction of the Commission presented to the Directors the Annual Report on the Behavior of the Economy, with an analysis of the performance of the main economic and labor indicators of Mexico and some other countries in the last 12 months.
The Council of Representatives, a body empowered by Constitutional mandate to set minimum wages, will analyze said report to have the necessary information for the process of setting general and professional minimum wages. This Council has the representation of 11 economic groups, both from the workers' sector and the employers' sector, each representative with one vote, as well as the representation of the Government of Mexico through the President of the Commission, who also has a vote.
Let's remember that from 2018 to 2021 the minimum wage in the "North Border Free Zone" area has increased 141.5% to remain at 213.39 pesos per day, while in the "Rest of the country" area the increase has been 60.4%, going from 88.36 to 141.70 pesos a day. Discounting inflation, the increases have been 115.3% and 43%, respectively, and it is estimated that they have benefited almost 4.5 million workers who contribute to the Mexican Institute of Social Security.
The Council of Representatives must set the minimum wages during December and before the last business day of the month, after analyzing the Annual Report of the Technical Direction and the dialogue between sectors on the various increase proposals.
