Additional security in immigration documents
The National Immigration Institute (INM) has recently introduced new resident ID cards, with the intent of increasing security for the public and the authority itself. Among other changes, the new cards will now include verification QR codes.

What are the effects for holders of temporary and permanent residence, in accordance with the INM?
a) For temporary residents:
Your resident ID card will take place upon your next extension request; however, an immediate voluntary replacement can be requested immediately at any time.
b) For permanent residents:
While the immigration authority does not mandate for a replacement, we suggest evaluating this possibility, as it might occur later on that immigration agents at airport entry points can require the document to be shown in its updated format. Other institutions, such as banks, might also do so.
If you wish to start the replacement of your current ID for the newest format or would like to receive further information, please reach out to your EY immigration advisor.
