EY clocks highest participation of close to 2,100 people for Walk for Rice

Close to 2,100 Partners and professionals of EY member firm in Singapore and their families, clients and alumni have pledged to walk 12,030 km to raise 120,300 bowls of rice and oatmeal, to benefit vulnerable families. The Walk for Rice event took place today. This is the 11th consecutive year that EY is organizing this event. 

The initiative is in support of the FairPrice Walk for Rice+ @ South East program by South East CDC and NTUC FairPrice Foundation. The walk, which began at One Marina Boulevard, continued to the Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay precinct. For every 300m walked, NTUC FairPrice Foundation will donate one bowl of brown rice, one bowl of white rice and one bowl of oatmeal to vulnerable families residing in the South East District.

EY will also be raising funds through donations by EY people and Partners as part of the corporate giving initiative. This year, EY has raised S$50,000 for Extra.Ordinary People, a charity that supports persons with special needs. The funds will be in support of Camp X, a camp for special needs youths aimed at expanding social circles, exchanging new experiences for personal discovery and growth. Camp X will take place in 2024.

Since 2012, EY has raised total donations of over S$232,000 to support the community in the South East District. Past donations have been channeled to the following causes:

  • Elderly services providers, such as Community Outreach Programme for the Elderly (COPE) partners and Seniors Activity Centres, to purchase rehabilitation equipment and promote active aging.
  • APSN Katong School, to buy exercise equipment and build a gym for their students, where a stay healthy and active curriculum could be implemented.
  • The Hut Limited, to organize training workshops and programs to provide youths with the opportunities to build their competencies and social and life skills.
  •  Mountbatten Vocational School, to build a gym room for their students and support their students with vocational training.

About FairPrice Walk for Rice+ @ South East

The “FairPrice Walk for Rice+ @ South East” program, which started in 2009, is a collaboration between NTUC FairPrice Foundation Ltd and South East Community Development Council. This annual campaign seeks to inculcate the giving spirit among the participants and residents by encouraging them to walk for a good cause. This year, for every 300m logged, FairPrice Foundation will donate one bowl of white rice, one bowl of brown rice and one bowl of oatmeal. The target is to raise 500,000 bowls of rice and 50,000 bowls of oatmeal for 7,000 vulnerable beneficiaries residing in the South East District.
