EY advises VR on its acquisition of MTR Express (Sweden) AB

VR-Group Plc is acquiring MTR Express, a long-distance traffic business operating in Sweden, from MTR Nordic AB.

VR has been operating in Sweden since 2022 when it acquired Arriva Sverige AB. This latest acquisition strengthens VR’s presence in the Swedish passenger transport market, enabling the expansion from regional contracted services to long-distance traffic.

MTRX operates six trains and employs about 120 people. In 2022, its revenue was approximately 350 million SEK. After the transaction is completed, MTRX will be part of VR's long-distance traffic operations.

The transaction requires approval from the Swedish competition authority, which is expected by the end of May.
