Winners for the EY Entrepreneur Of The YearTM 2023 awards (see Annex I) were unveiled today, with 10 outstanding entrepreneurs from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong/Macau won the awards. This year’s EY Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) program is held under the theme of “Embracing integration to create opportunities; joining hands to shape the future”, with an aim to identify entrepreneurs who contribute efforts in supporting high-quality economic development in line with opening-up and cooperation principles, and serves as a platform to promote exchanges and cooperation among entrepreneurs from Chinese mainland and Hong Kong/Macau to gather their strength and wisdom for the advancement of Chinese modernization.
The 20th CPC National Congress outlined the blueprint for Chinese modernization and proposed to accelerate the construction of a new development pattern and focus on promoting high-quality development. As such, transformation is highlighted as the keyword in this era when the construction of a modernized industrial system, the acceleration of green and low-carbon transformation and the promotion of high-level opening-up to the world all face unprecedented challenges as well as opportunities. Only by strengthening dialogue and cooperation can enterprises generate diverse ideas and integrate resources to build a vigorous innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem toward a more resilient economy.
Jack Chan, EY China Chairman and EY Greater China Regional Managing Partner, said, “Centering on the new features and requirements of China’s development, this year’s EOY program continues to explore ways to achieve high-quality and sustainable development with the spirit of openness and integration of the era. The award-winning entrepreneurs adhere to their trades, strive for innovation, and respond to the uncertainties of the global economy with innovative and professional expertise. They are the driving force behind Chinese modernization. They focus on the long-term value growth strategy of their enterprises and actively lead the sustainable development of industries by putting ESG principles into practice. With the year 2023 marks the 55th anniversary of EY Greater China, further engagements in supporting high-quality economic development are anticipated, and I look forward to collaborating with outstanding enterprises to ‘embrace integration, create opportunities and join hands to shape the future’.”
China has continued to facilitate and abet private enterprises throughout 2023. Policy support is clearly seen through national measures such as the introduction of 31 provisions for the private sector and the establishment of the Private Economy Development Bureau. These policies provide a wider stage for entrepreneurs to realize bigger goals and attain greater achievements. With such, reviewing and sharing experience of success while promoting entrepreneurship featuring Chinese characteristics will give fuller play to the role of private enterprises. Such, in turn, is significant in stimulating market vitality and boosting independent innovation.
Michael Bi, EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2023 Program Co-chairman and Managing Partner of EY Greater China Markets, said, “The selection for the EOY 2023, themed “Embracing integration to create opportunities, joining hands to shape the future,” focuses on the spirit of openness and integration in the current era. Its purpose is to commend entrepreneurs for their relentless efforts in promoting sustainable development and their outstanding contributions to the high-quality development of the Chinese economy. This year’s awarded entrepreneurs adhere to the path of technological innovation, actively leading corporate transformation and upgrading, and promoting the sustainable development of their industries. Through concrete actions, they contribute to the process of Chinese-style modernization.”
The EOY program adopts a single global standard to assess candidates in four dimensions, including entrepreneurial spirit, growth, purpose and impact, with follow-up insights into models for entrepreneurship. This year’s winners come from different fields such as manufacturing, consumer goods, science and technology, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, among which, manufacturing industry has seen the largest number of winners, demonstrating a rise and resilient growth in China's manufacturing industry on the journey toward world-class performance.
William Huang, EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2023 Program Co-Chairman and Managing Partner of EY China South, said, “This year marks the eighteenth anniversary of the EOY awards in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong/Macau, and over the years, the awards program has remained committed to identifying and recognizing the most successful and innovative entrepreneurs. By honoring their successes, we hope to inspire more entrepreneurs to scale new heights. We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the winners. Our sincere gratitude goes to all participants and the wider community for their support on the EOY program.”
