Silvana Koch-Mehrin
President, Women Political Leaders
Silvana Koch-Mehrin is the Founder and President of the Women Political Leaders (WPL), the worldwide network of female politicians. WPL is an independent, non-partisan and not-for-profit foundation. Its mission is to increase the number and influence of women in political leadership.
SiIvana is a former Vice President of the European Parliament, serving from 2009 to 2011, and a former member, serving from 2004 to 2014. She served on the budget, trade and gender equality committees. Before her time in politics, she founded and ran a public affairs consultancy in Brussels, which later merged with a larger US firm.
In addition to her work for WPL, Silvana serves on the board of the Council of Women World Leaders, the network of female presidents and prime ministers. She is a regular speaker at institutions such as the United Nations, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the World Bank. Silvana is also a Young Global Leader Alumni of the World Economic Forum.
