Jack Gance disrupted the retail pharmacy industry with big stores, big volumes and low prices.
Jack Gance, Co-Founder and Chairman of Chemist Warehouse, opened his first pharmacy store in 1972 and now oversees a multibillion-dollar chain that has created affordability and accessibility for the consumer in health and wellbeing.
Early on, Jack created the Le Specs, Le Tan, Australis and Colours of Australia brands of sunglasses, suntan lotion, fragrances and cosmetics. He sold that business in 1991, and after completing an MBA at Monash University and NYU Stern School of Business, he returned to revolutionize the pharmacy industry.
By 1993, Jack was running 35 stores through My Chemist Pharmacy chain, which had phenomenal growth. He then decided to radically change the face of pharmacy with Chemist Warehouse, disrupting the industry through big stores and big volumes to lower operating costs and in turn reduce prices for consumers. Jack, his partners and his team created a chain that now commands over 50% market share in Australia.
Today, Chemist Warehouse dominates the pharmacy market in Australia and is continuing to expand into new markets and growing market share. Chemist Warehouse is looking to go public in the next few years so that families can continue to benefit from its efficiencies and lower prices.
