Ten stories of Slovenian family-owned enterprises chronicle the period marked by crisis

EY Slovenia presents the seventh book on family enterprises in Slovenia, Family Business Slovenia 2020. Every year since 2014, a series of 10 stories highlights the excellence of family enterprises and their importance for Slovenian economy. In the stories collected this year, we can find the common thread of family enterprise resilience in this period that has been and is still marked by the Coronacrisis. Several stories are related to food industry; the epidemic has taught us to appreciate the role of food companies in these uncertain times. We talk to enterprises from the music and hospitality industry, chat with tractor manufacturers and learn about printed circuit board assemblies and the implementation of e-business solutions.

Mojca Emeršič, Family Enterprise Leaser at EY Slovenia, explains that while the epidemic brought a lot of uncertainty to enterprises, it also shone a light onto examples of best practice: »Family enterprises are usually well-equipped to respond to times of crisis better than the rest of the economy. However, the unpredictability and duration of this year’s crisis has challenged even the best prepared among them. This year's book brings the number of stories we collected up to 70 and has been created as a chronicle of a time marked by crisis.«

The stories in Slovenian and English are available on the website. Thanks to the support of SPIRIT Slovenia, 200 sets of all published books are available in Slovenian public libraries, helping shape Slovenia national identity. SPIRT has been actively supporting and partialy co-funding the publication of these books since 2016.
