EY leaders discussed the future of the Metaverse and net-zero economy at the three-day hybrid event, organized by the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia.

EY leaders were invited to discuss the future of Metaverse and net-zero economy at the International Directors Summit 2022, which was held on 26-28 September 2022.

Themed “The B factor (Bold +Brave) boards, the three-day hybrid event organized by the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM) saw a confluence of more than thirty renowned speakers and participants comprising business leaders including board directors, C-suite executives and entrepreneurs to discuss and get fresh, bold perspectives on key challenges facing boardrooms and C-suites today.

The summit kicked off with a welcome remark by Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar, Chairman, , followed with an address by YBhg. Dato’ Seri Dr Awang Adek Hussin, Executive Chairman, Securities Commission Malaysia.

EY, a Gold sponsor of the event, was invited to share the latest insights and experiences on some of these key topics discussed. Jennifer Martin, Associate Partner and Asia Pacific Experience Design Leader, Ernst & Young Services Pty Ltd moderated a keynote session on the topic of “The Metaverse, The Next Universe”. During the session, the panel discussed on what it takes to pioneer Metaverse applications and how it coincides with new ways of working, as well as why attracting and developing the right kind of talent are key to help organizations achieve their goals.

Following that, Arina Kok, Malaysia Climate Change and Sustainability Services Leader and Partner, Ernst & Young Consulting Sdn Bhd, spoke about the “Race to Net Zero: Climate Risk, Stranded Assets, Stranded Humans” and highlighted how working toward a net-zero economy by 2050 will undeniably benefit our planet., At the same time, this ambition will pose issues of stranded assets and human capital if carbon-dependent investments are terminated prematurely without proper exit strategies. Arina also touched on h the impact of these risks on the stability of the economy and the sustainability of businesses, as well as the potential strategies to consider moving forward.

The summit concluded with an in-person networking event, the #IDSafterpartea, to enable participants to connect and engage with each other as well as with other invited guests and speakers.
