Carr Family
Owners, Carrfields, New Zealand
The Carr Family has grown the business into agriservices, machinery, seed, livestock, contracting, irrigation and property, with investments in natural fiber and honey.
Carrfields is a company with strong roots in farming, going back generations. Back in the 1980s, Greg and Glenys Carr needed to supplement the income from their farm and started their own baling contracting business. Over the years, they, their children and their partners have grown the business into a thriving enterprise encompassing agriservices, machinery, seed, livestock, contracting, irrigation and property, with investments in natural fiber and honey.
Greg's sons Craig, Ryan and James are part of the family business and have helped drive its significant progress. Craig Carr is the Managing Director of Carrfields. They have recently established the Carr Family Charitable Trust, which is focused on rural health and wellness, aiming to give back to rural communities they serve.
Today, the Carrfields Group’s annual revenue is approximately NZ$400 million. The company employs more than 480 people and contractors across NZ, Australia, India, Ethiopia, the US and the UAE, and exports to over 40 countries. The family is now set to transition the business to the third generation, recently setting up a new structure to ensure the group is governed well into the future. The recipient of the EY Family Enterprise Award of Excellence 2023 for New Zealand is the Carr Family. With the evolution in the agricultural landscape, the technology and farming methods may have changed, yet Carrfields' key values remain the same as Greg and Glenys’ foundation business values of promise and service.
